Lancaster County government has gone ELEVEN years without raising your taxes. Property taxes are a problem in PA. Especially in these days of high inflation. Many seniors struggle with property taxes that seem to go up every year. I think the legislature should do away with them and/or implement alternatives. But in the meantime, Lancaster County government does what we can at our level to control the burden and keep senior citizens in their homes. Lancaster County government has gone ELEVEN years without raising your taxes. This is especially hard to do during the recent high inflation years. At the same time, we have saved money, paid down debt, taken care of our infrastructure, provided for public safety, and led the nation in farmland preservation. We try to set a shining example of what efficient, effective, people centered government can do.

The increase tax rates not only negatively impact businesses, but will create additional hardships for many members of our community, including my colleagues who live and work in Hopewell.A tax increase without sufficient advance notice will wreak havoc on citizens that haven’t been afforded the opportunity to planned for it – posing substantial burden on their personal finances and ability to manage day to day expenses, spend in their community, and save for the future. This is further exacerbated by inflation and increases in property values. https://lnkd.in/eXCefYbt

Know an older homeowner whose property is overassessed for taxes? Has gentrification played havok with your home's tax value?Currently I'm assisting older homeowners in Raleigh, NC with challenging their home's tax assessments. These stories are wild. One man's 70 year old home (1500 sq ft) is assessed the same as the new $1.6 million newly built townhome across the street! County assessors increased other homes' tax burdens because they were built with brick, have a new HVAC, or had large[r] front yards. -__-Challenge your home's tax assessment if you think it too high; especially if you live in an old [Black] neighborhood or one that is quickly gentrifying. The DEADLINE to petition tax assessments in Wake County, NC is May 15, 2024! Durham you're up next year. #FairHousing #TaxAssessment #ColorOfLaw #Gentrification #AffordableHousing #Homeownership

Texas homeowners, are you ready to cast your vote on property tax relief? Before you head to the polls, it's essential to be informed about what's at stake. Here's a quick rundown of key considerations:1) Understanding the Proposal: Take the time to read and understand the property tax relief proposal. Know what it entails, such as potential tax rate changes or exemptions.2) Local Impact: Consider how this relief could affect local services like schools, public safety, and infrastructure. Lower property tax revenues may lead to cuts in these essential areas.3) Local Control: Think about whether you believe property tax rates should be determined locally or if you support centralizing control over tax rates.4) Equity: Assess whether the relief measures are fair and equitable. Will they primarily benefit specific groups? Consider the wider implications for income inequality.Stay informed and make your vote count! Your decision can have a significant impact on your community.#TexasPropertyTaxRelief #VotingMatters #CommunityEngagement

OPINIONOne town balances public and private needs; who else will?We pleaded in June that governments let taxpayers keep some of the huge gains they can collect from soaring tax bases. Hats off to Miami Lakes, which is letting taxpayers keep all the town’s property tax windfall. That will aid about 1% of Miami-Dade taxpayers. Let’s see how far other cities will go to lighten economic loads by reducing tax rates to compensate for higher property values.#MiamiTodayNewshttps://lnkd.in/dSHD_Stk
